Embedded Security for the IoT

Course Description

An introduction into the topics of security and cryptography with special consideration of specific requirements of embedded systems. Among others, methods of safe boot, secure updates, but also aspects such as network security, are illustrated. This course covers these topics, i.a.: Intrusion, SPS security, introduction to basic cryptographic procedures, application of firewalls incl. latest kernel technologies, ISM, PAM, white list, presentation of Linux based solutions right up to BDEW criteria and/or Common Criteria.

Generally speaking this course is about the "tempering" of embedded devices. And, derivatively, about the necessity of updates (concept) and correct distribution (by way of example ELBE). The training is concluded with an example of how to "securely" transfer data from sensor to mobile application.

Requirements

To participate in this course, basic knowledge of the Linux operating system is expected as well as experience in dealing with the shell.
